The 13th International Conference on Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

May 22-25, 2016

Resilience by all means

Resilience has become a popular topic, particularly when it refers to safety. Resilience, however, has several meanings and approaches (Woods, D., “Four Concepts for resilience and the Implications for the Future of Resilience Engineering”, Reliability Engineering and System Safety).

This edition will highlight the exploration of the various facets of resilience when applied to Crisis and Emergency Management. The purpose of ISCRAM 2016 is to stimulate discussions that enable the design of resilient systems in the domain of crisis management.

The Keynote speakers will provide insights on current practices and future trends in crisis and disaster management. The three keynotes will be released soon!

Important information concerning ISCRAM 2016 and the Zika Virus

The ISCRAM Board and Conference Committee have discussed the Zika situation in Brazil, host of the ISCRAM 2016 conference, and the various options in great depth. This discussion has been helped by your input via the comments in the questionnaire that we sent to the authors. We recognise that there is a potential health risk and this is, and has always been, our greatest concern. On the other hand, the authors have worked hard and we do not want to isolate them by cancelling the conference and preventing them from presenting their work and interacting with colleagues.

We believe that we have come to the best solution possible given the above, and other complex issues. The ISCRAM 2016 conference will be held both physically, in Rio de Janeiro for those people who would like to attend, and virtually for those people who would prefer to present their paper remotely. We are currently still working out some details concerning the actual platform that will be used, and we will send you some information later for those who wish to attend the conference virtually. For those wishing to present their work remotely there will be a reduced registration fee (see conference website for details).

Whether you choose to attend physically or virtually we will do our best to make sure that ISCRAM 2016 is a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
